A Mariner, baker, and owned some mills in Portsmouth, New Hampshire
Captain of Marines at Louisburg. According to Source 36 he supplied his own ship & crew for the mission.
Ann: daughter of James & Hannah ODIORNE (BATSON) born around 1710, Portsmouth or Newcastle
He was a New Castle town selectman in 1765 (at least).
One Captain Abraham was listed as a Grantee of Topsham (New Hampshire?) on 27 September 1763. Probably him. NOTE: I had his birth at 1708 but didn’t fit in with the others.

I recently rented some 19th century Cornish census records from the LDS and went to the New England Historic Genealogical Society library today to view them. I have to give them back in several weeks, so I devoted most of my time to them, rather than Newcastle Town Records.
However, I had a little time at the end of my visit, which I did devote to Captain Abraham3 TREFETHEN⁰¹⁹³.
Thomas Bell, Abraham TREFETHEN, and Henry Prescott signed a tax document as the Newcastle Town Selectmen, 26 November 1771.
Captain Abraham TREFETHEN was assessed for the Newcastle Town Tax of 1784. "The Estate of Capt Abrm TREFETHEN decd’" was assessed for the Newcastle Town Tax of 1785. From these two facts, I conclude that Captain Abraham3 TREFETHEN⁰¹⁹³ died in 1784. Captain Abraham TREFETHEN Junior continued to be assessed in subsequent years.
I will want to examine the records more closely, but it would appear that Sampson TREFETHEN first emerges as a Newcastle taxpayer in 1785, after the death of Captain Abraham TREFETHEN. It may be that there is a father-son relationship between the two.
Please find below two assessments for Captain Abraham TREFETHEN, those of 1761 and 1772. The first is interesting because of what it confirms. Previously, we have seen State Papers that mentioned his Mill(s). Now, we find him assessed for the mill. Previously, we have seen an Allentown deed that described both his son, John TREFETHEN, and his son-in-law, Archelaus Fernald, both of Newcastle, as "bakers." Now, we find that the head of the family, Captain Abraham TREFETHEN, had a "Baking Business," as well as "other Branches of Trade.

Abraham Treferthern his Proportion for a tax 1st - his pole [poll] - 22:00:00 2d - his House and land where he lives - 18:00:00 3d - his mill - 22:00:00 4 - his Bakeing Business with other Branchs of Trade Separate from the mill - 22:00:00 5 - A peice of land near the Foart [Fort] - 5:00:00 6 - The Profits on Severall houses at Rent - 5:00:00 [Total] 94:00:00
"Capt Abrm TREFETHEN & 2 Men" were assessed for 6 lbs 19s 9d in the Newcastle Town Tax of 1772. This is the period when tax records became more detailed. Captain Abraham Trefethen’s assessment was based upon:
1 Schooner - 130:00:00 1 Outward Cargo - 110:00:00 His Fishing Schr - 7:10:00 -------------------------------------- [Total Personal Property] - 247:10:00 [Tax on Personal Property @ 1%] - 2:09:06 ------------------------------------ 3 polls @ 18/ - 2:14:00 20 acres land @ 6d - 00:10:00 4 cows 8/, 1 horse 3/, 4 young cattle 5/ - 00:16:00 Houses & c 10/3 - 00:10:03 [Tax on Real Property - 4:10:03] ------------------------------------ [Total] - 06:19:09
