His birth date may have been 26 May 1786.
1810 census indicates he and wife lived alone, aged '26-46', in Friendship, Maine.
In 1820 they are found in Cornville, same age group, with 2 children under 10, a boy and girl.
A farmer (listed as in the agriculture trade).

Their daughter Hannah TREFETHEN¹¹⁵⁴ married Calvin BAINES, and they had a daughter Christina H. who married Charles TREFETHEN⁰⁸⁸⁸
After his death in 1850 his wife and remaining children moved in with son Ben TREFETHEN¹¹⁵¹ in Corrinna. The 1850 Census taker there found Benjamin, his mother Mary (age 49), Cynthia TREFETHEN¹⁵⁸⁴, age 27, Abraham TREFETHEN¹¹⁵¹ age 15, Mary TREFETHEN¹¹⁵⁶ 12, Jacob TREFETHEN⁰⁹⁴² 11, and Sophia J. TREFETHEN 7.
In the same town lived Susannah TREFETHEN¹⁰⁶⁶ with her husband, Jeremiah SHAW, and infant daughter Eliza.
Wife was born about 1800 and died on 15 April 1880
Buried in Crowell Cemetery in Exeter, Maine.
Was a Private in Captain D. Flander’s Company, Lieutenant Colonel J. Waugh's Regiment from 14 September 14th to 24th, 1814. Raised at Cornville, Maine (probably where he resided) and camped at Waterville to await orders.
