Ralph TREFETHEN, a contracting carpenter and builder, whose place of business is located at No. 151 South Street, Portsmouth, New Hampshire, was born in this city, October 2, 1870, a son of Albert B. and Mary A. (Rand) TREFETHEN. The parents were both natives of Rye, New Hampshire. Albert B. TREFETHEN was engaged in business in Portsmouth as a contractor and builder, and died here in 1900. He was a reliable and enterprising citizen, taking an interest in public improvements, and in politics was a Democrat. His wife, a woman of fine character, still resides in Portsmouth. They had four children, all sons: Everett W., Ralph, Frank and Wallis. Ralph TREFETHEN was educated in the common and high schools of Portsmouth. He then learned the carpenter’s trade with William A. Hodgdon, remaining with him six years. At the end of that time he started in business for himself and has since conducted it successfully - a period of about eighteen years. He usually employs about six men. He belongs to the Masonic order, in which he has advanced to the third degree. His religious affiliations are with the Middle Street Congregational Church. His business office and residence are at the same location, his mother residing with him.
